Sriharikota is an island located in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India. It is known for being the location of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, where the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) carries out satellite launches.
The Satish Dhawan Space Centre is the launch center for the Indian Space Research Organization and is located in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. It is 50 miles north of Chennai.
It was launched because India wanted to compete with other Lunar exploration's orginisation.
India's first lunar space craft was launched in November 2008 at Sriharikota.
