Sportsters went to an alternator setup in 1984 (model year); before that they used a DC generator.
In all subsequent Sportsters (and air-cooled Buells), the stator is behind the primary drive. On Sportsters with four-speed transmissions and chain drives (through about 1990 or so), the stator is behind the clutch basket and the magnetic rotor is a part of the clutch assembly. On later Sportsters, the stator is behind the crankshaft sprocket, and the rotor is just behind the sprocket (similar to the arrangement in the big twin). The wire connecting the stator to the regulator exits from the back side of the primary housing, and hooks to the regulator through an in-line connector (this is different from the big twins, which locate the connector at the front of the primary housing).
Replacement is the same in either case: remove the outer primary cover, and then remove the primary chain, crankshaft sprocket and clutch assembly as a unit. Then unplug the stator, remove the screws holding it in position, and pull the wire/plug through. Assembly is the reverse of disassembly.
Take the rotor and the clutch basket off at the same time
there is no alternator per say. your charging system consist of a stator which is behind the clutch assembly and a regulator which is on the front of the frame. check to make sure the plug under the bike has not come unplugged. it runs from the reg to the stator.
An electric motor has a stator and a rotor. The stator does not move. The rotor rotates inside the stator.
Looking for coil ohms and stator ohms. And possibly the voltage comming out of the stator .
no.
The cost of the Sportster varies according to the age and features. A Sportster 883 L starts at around $7,500 while the Sportster 1200 begins at $9,800.
yes it will
On a 1.25 A charging Stator it only has 2 poles. Now on a 3A charging Stator it has 4 poles for the charging. And both have 6 poles for Lighting Stator. So always remember that.
