Make sure that the Jeep Grand Cherokee is built in the early part of 1996. Because the ones built in the later part of 1996 do not have a receiver module that uses infrared signals to remotely unlock the the vehicle. These models use radio signals instead and therefore there are no receiver modules similar to the black dome things that infrared remotes use. If the vehicle has infrared system, then the receiver can be readily seen hanging from the headliner. But if the vehicle uses radio signals, then the best option is to take the vehicle to a Jeep or Chrysler dealership because this radio system is not user programmable and requires the use of a high tech computer scanning tool to reprogram the remote system.
The keyless entry receiver is under the console - behind the screens it's the temp and compass
YOU CAN FINE ALMOST ANY KEYLESS ENTRY ON EBAY AND FOR A GOOD PRICE.. GOOD LUCK.........
it has to be done by the dealer. =(
I had the same problem. Google "keyless entry remote 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee".
You have to program it with a DRB (Scan tool).
dealer has to do it with factory scan tool
The keyless entry system must be programmed with an OBD II tool which the dealer or locksmith has. Sorry that this is not the answer your looking for, I didn't want to hear it either.
this is located in passenger door switch
The receiver is behind the left side of the IP, behind the driver info center
This works for the Grand Cherokee:Sit inside the vehicle with all the doors closed. Place ignition in the OFF position.Open the driver's door. Leave Open.Move the mechanical door lever to the LOCK position.Turn the ignition to the RUN position.Aim the transmitter at the Keyless Entry receiver and press Lock button.Hold for five seconds until the door locks cycle.Turn ignition OFF within 20 seconds.
The ignition switch, also called the wireless control module, is the keyless entry computer and receiver.
Inside Passenger door connected to the window/door switches. has small antenna comming out of it.
