I live in Thailand - but it that cheap (especially with foreign currencies in the toilet!)
Cambodia is cheaper and has much better (read: friendlier) Immigration rules.
Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia are also up and coming. You also have South American countries to look at (not my area though).
Philipines too, but the crime rate against foreigners is much higher there - they are much more used to westerners and know how t take advantage (as is THailand too these days).
If I get fed up with Thaiuland, I will move on to Cambodia as my place of choice right now - I would not go back to the west.
