Belgian made after 1890
The W. Richards shotguns were mainly made in Belgium. They were an attempt by Sears Roebuck Company to cash in on the well known English gunmaker Westley Richards, but have no connection to the Westley Richards Company. There were listed in the Sears catalogs from the late 1890s and early 1900s.
The blue crown stamp generally indicates that a stoneware pottery piece was made by one of over 200 Dresden potters registered to use the stamp. It is often counterfeited, so there is no guarantee your churn is from Dresden simply from the stamp.
My .22 caliber mercury rifle has a stamp on the barrel of a "crown" . which is usually a sign it was made in the UK somewhere, my 308 has the same stamp of the crown on it and was bade in Birmingham England
The stamp that says where it is made.
Proofed in Belgium. Most likely a store brand from turn of the century.
The crown is the proof stamp from the Birmingham proof house. All guns made in or imported to the UK were submitted for proof testing in either Birmingham or London. The stamp will have letters underneath it................'BV' denotes the 'viewing' mark, stamped while the barrels were in the white, before finishing. 'MP' denotes the definitive proof mark. These were applied to guns proved from 1904 to 1950, after which the crown was stamped atop 'NP'
Made in 1934.
yes, it is made in spain. i happen to have 4 of them , which were all made custom to my grandfather.
You can't tell who made it by the sn. It should have a name on the barrel
That sounds like a hallmark stamp telling who made it.
DSC is the stamp of the sponsor, or maker. The crown is the stamp of the assay office that assures the quality of the material. The crown might me a castle, which would inidicate that the ring has been stamped in the Edinburgh assay office. The number 375 shows that the ring is made from 9 carat gold.
Sounds like it could be a Westley Richards & Co. knockoff. Research Westley Richards guns and see if u can narrow it down. I believe the ELG is a Begian Proof Mark. True W. Richards shotguns were made in England. Howere, at the time there were 17 other registered gunmakers in England at the time with the name Richards. A TRUE Westley Richards will never have the first name abbreviated.
