The cam sensor is mounted into the front timing cover just behind or near the water pump. Note that failure of the cam sensor to work properly is usually not cause by a faulty cam sensor but more commonly a failed permanent magnet located in the cam drive gear.
There is no cam sensor on a 90 3.1. Only a crank sensor.
Bad coil? Bad distributor cap? If not HEI ignition-could be bad coil wire
1992 Chevy trucks did not have a CAM SENSOR. They had a distributor.
under neath the power stearing pump.
There is no cam sensor on a 93 3.1. Just a crankshaft sensor....which is located behind the harmonic balancer. WRONG! it does in Fact have a cam position sensor! its underneath the intake plenum!
Assuming that it is a 3.1 V6, as most of them are, there is no cam sensor. Only a crankshaft sensor. It is located behind the harmonic balancer. To replace it the balancer has to be removed.
cam sensor cost around 28.00 if you put it in. Not hard one bolt.
IS CALL CAMSHAFT SENSOR AND IS LOCATED ON THE RIGTH SIDE OF THE ENGINE , ABOVE THE CRANK PULLEY You will have a crank sensor, but it won't have a cam sensor. it dose have a cam sensor, on the timing cover left sind of water pump
I had to go to a dealership in order to find the location of the cam position sensor on a 1993 / 3.1 chevy lumina. I could order the part but was unable to find the location. after returning from the dealership. I am here to discredit those who say it doesn't have one. it in FACT does have one!. It is located under neath the intake plenum..
Both the CAM and Crank sensor are on the front of engine. The cam semsor is to the right and held in with two smaller screws. It is actually a sealed Hall Sensor device but pretty easy to change.
WOW WAY TO NAME ALL OF THEM LOL it is the crankshaft position sensor and either knocks sensor or camshaft position sensor First off if you a have a 3.1 it is the KNock Sensor. Crankshaft sensor and cam sensor is on the belt side of the motor. Crank is on bottom behind the big pully and cam is on top(half way up) usually under power steering pump
Some of the 1992 Rangers had the camshaft position sensor on top of the engine in the same hole where the distributor used to be. Some Ranger engines did not use a camshaft sensor at all.
