That year did not have a crank sensor.
Chevy did not use a crank sensor on that year.
Crank sensors are always located on the camshafts. The 1989 Pontiac Sunbird crank sensor is located on the head of the engine towards to end of the camshaft.
It does not have 1.
This car only uses the sensor in the distributor.

the fuel pump or crank sensor
Replace Crankshaft sensor=Flywheel sensor. Check rotor
check timing belt/chain sounds like valves not timed properly, or not closing completely
That would be the pick up plate in the distributor.
