The front cylinder on the driver's side is #1.
There were two 350 engines offered in 68. The standard engine was about 8.5 to 1 and the HO version which was advertised at 10.5 to 1.
For a 2000 Ford E-350 , gasoline V8 engine : The engine cylinder locations are numbered : 4 - 8 3 - 7 2 - 6 1 - 5 front of vehicle
Standing in front of the engine, Cylinder 1 is in front of you, to make it easier for you, follow the shortest spark plug wire. That one will lead you to the very first spark plug which is where cylinder 1 is.

Set the motor to TDC, pull the #1 spark plug, put a small wooden dowl rod in the cylinder, rotate the engine and measure the stroke. 3.25" = 327, 3.48" = 350

Engine size would help..... 250 6 cyl - 153624 350 8 cyl - 18436572 455 8 cyl - 18436572 All distributors turn clockwise and the #1 cylinder is drivers front on the 8 cylinder's and the front cylinder on the 6 cylinder engine.
