When you open the door to get into the car, you will see a knob just behind the parking brake lever. Just pull it straight up and the rear hatch lock will release.

Depending on what year model it is you unscrew the center console and just behind the handbrake lever the brake wire has a lock nut and nut on the end of it you can use these nuts to either tension up or release tension from the brakes, don't over tension it otherwise you will wear down your brakes while driving.

Solved the problem myself. Have to disassemble rear panels inside rear hatch until you find cable leading to gas tank door. About a hour or two. Replug plastic unit that opens gas door. Later glued it in place so this may not happen again.

Even the manual is vague here. You need to look under the chrome trim where the main hatch lever is. Off to the far right is a handle which, if you get down and look, appears to be a vent or something. Put your fingers in and pull up, this will release the hatch... then pull up on the small handle on the hatch itself.
