The distributor with distributor cap is at the back of the engine ( just follow the spark plug wires )
The #1 plug wire is on the front left next to the intake bolt. The firing order (clockwise) is 18436572.

The 2000 Dodge Durango 5.9L distributor spark plug wire firing order is 1, 8, 4, 3, 6, 5, 7, 2. The number one cylinder is at the front of the engine on the left side. The distributor rotates clockwise.
Spark plug, plug wire, injector, distributor cap, rotor, internal engine failure,.....
The number one plug is the one on the drivers side front of the engine. Therefore the plug wire connected to that plug is number 1 and where it connects to the distributor is the number 1 position on the distributor. If you have removed all the plug wires then you will have to remove the spark plugs, turn the engine over until the number 1 cylinder is at top dead center (TDC) on the compressions stroke. Once it is at TDC then the rotor inside the distributor will be pointing to the number 1 position.
On the 305 engine the number one plug position is the first one on the right side while you are facing the engine.
It depends a little on what type of engine you have. Look under the hood for your spark plug wires. The single component that all of them connect to (not the spark plugs), is the distributor cap. Underneath it is the distributor.
The number one cylinder for the 2.7 Dodge engine on the passenger side. It is the cylinder closest to the front of the engine.
like any other engine turn the engine until the number one piston is top dead center and then install the distributor where the rotor button is on the plug wire for number one cylinder it should start there and final adjust by twisting distributor until running smooth
