you need to drop the transmisison oil pan,
The oil pump is located in the oil sump/pan and driven by a chain attached to the crankshaft.
To replace the oil pan gasket on a 2001 Volkswagen Passat turbo the exhaust downpipe must be removed. The oil needs to be drained and all the pan bolts need to be removed as well. When replacing the gasket a sealer should be used to ensure a proper seal.
Replacing the oil pan gasket is a fairly simple process. The labor allotment for replacement is 3/4 hour plus parts. Removing the oil pan requires a full oil change by necessity as well.
First start out by draining the oil out, then take the bolts out of the oil sensor (the thing with wires running to it). Mind you that if you dont get all of the oil out then it will get messy at this point. Now take the bolts out that are holding the oil pan on, without proper tools you may have to drop the stabilizer bar to get to some of them. Put new oil pan on and repeat process in reverse order.

There isn't one. VW's have a "sealed" transmission. Unsealed through the transmission pan, there is a fill plug at the top of the pan, a drain plug at the bottom.
Drain the oil from your 2003 Chevy Malibu oil pan. Remove the oil pan retaining bolts. Remove the oil pan gasket. Put a new gasket on the new oil pan and reverse the process.
