Yes, taking fish oil capsules (Omega-3 oil) is safe to take for people with thyroid disease. Generally, a person with hypothyroidism can take up to 4 grams (4 capsules) of an omega-3 fish oil supplement with no ill effects. Higher doses than that may have negative side effects unrelated to the thyroid, so it is generally recommended to not take more than 3-4 grams of fish oil per day

Unless labeled as TG (for the triglyceride form), nearly all fish oil products that provide concentrated omega-3s use the EE (ethyl ester) form. I think you can safely assume in this case that Spring Valley uses the EE form. This is because purifying and concentrating fish omega-3s requires converting them to the EE form. Some products are additionally processed later to convert them back to TG (their original form) - which costs you more, but makes no appreciable difference. FYI: if a fish oil hasn't been purified and concentrated you really don't want to use it because you'd be getting more mercury and other contaminants. Most commercially available fish oil products are purified and concentrated through a process called molecular distillation. Many companies are using the TG form as their "secret sauce" to get you to buy their products. However, despite their marketing claims that the TG form is more absorbable, this is actually not the case. There's some great information about this at the link in the "Related Links" category further down on this page.
