How do you push the piston back in the front brake caliper on a Saab 900?
There are several different front brake calipers for the Saab 900 depending on the year. The first is from 1979-1987 and is the same as that on the Saab 99 beginning in 1975. You need a special tool to rotate the caliper piston back into place because the front caliper also acts as the parking brake. From 1988 thru 1993, the front calipers on the Classic 900 are the same as those on the Saab 9000. The NG 900 has a completely different brake caliper setup beginning with the 1994 model.

Yes and no. From 1989 till 2010 Saab was owned by GM so the NG 900 used the a GM platform and the GM V6 engine, the Second generation of 9-3 was also used GM engines. The 9-5 also is based on GM cars but Saab has been sold to Spyker now so the new 9-5 wagon will be the last Saab developed under GM with the replacement for the 9-3 in 2012 being the first independently developed Saab in about 25 years.
Can you use parts in a Saab 2000 95 wagon for a Saab 1995 900 SE?
Probably not as many as you might have thought of at face value. The '95 SAAB was also called the 'NG SAAB'... standing for 'next generation'. Although it was still called a member of the 900 series of SAABs, it was the first (or 2nd) of the "General Motors" designed SAABs, and really quite a different car from earlier "true SAABs". A few years later the name of the models changed from "900" to "9-x" (9-3, 9-5). The outside of these appeared quite similar to the 1995 900 'NG' SAABs, I have read there were over 2000 engineering changes between them. So...it really depends on WHICH parts you are thinking of moving over...I suspect not very many would work. Good luck. If it is Saab900 SE (NG, I presume) it is attached to engine oil cap on top of engine (its big and yellow...can't miss it.) Turn the cap, pull out the dipstick attached. Yellow-brown tip indicates oil level.
Why would starter lock in on position when starter good for a 1966 ford ranchero?
Battery may be low on charge or NG. Battery has enough juice to engage starter drive into flywheel but not enough juice to turn engine sufficiently to start so it gets stuck. If it is left in that mode for long it will toast the starter.
Can you repair a 1999 Saab with 1995 parts?
Probably not...at least not much. I used to have a 1995 900SE Turbo Convertible. While the styling and outside appearance was VERY similar to much later SAABs, the workings were pretty much reworked. 1995 was one of the last years of the 900 series, and was known as the NG model. From my telephone man days 'NG' stood for "NO GOOD"...but in this case NG stands for "NEXT GENERATION". It was a 900 in name only, it was one of the first releases after GM bought SAAB, and you just need to look at it compared to maybe a 1990 to see how much they had changed! When SAAB came out with the 9-3 it looked like the 900 'NG'...but articles at the time stressed how many engineering changes had taken place under the sheet metal, with "over 2000 changes" if I remember correctly. So the NG years were sort of orphaned. Looked new, but lots of changes from the 9-3 series. Only one I KNOW of was the clutch operations. The '95 used a cable clutch >with no adjustments!< whereas the 9-3 switched to a hydraulic clutch. The clutch cable was an Achilles Heel: It would stretch when older, there was no adjustment, and pretty soon you could not fully disengage it which made for hard shifting. Reverse was the 1st gear difficult to engage, which made things tough since you HAD to have it in Reverse in order to remove the ignition key. I got around this by adding a washer between the clutch arm and cable end, effectively getting rid of the slack in the cable, but eventually the cable snapped. Liked the 95. FAST, sporty, good handling, nice convertible. BUT, not many places worked on them, and dealer prices were outrageous. (Er, until I needed a dealer to work on my replacement vehicle, a BMW motorcycle. Compared to BMW motorcycle dealer charges, SAABs were cheap!) Sorry I don't have specific advice for you, but due to the 2000+ changes between those years, there is probably a lot that you could not use. Paul H.
Are next generation saabs better then classic saabs?
All a matter of taste. I absolutely loved my 95 NG SAAB 900 SE Turbo Convertable...I think its styling looks like expensive sports cars being manufactured now (Volvo, MBZ, and yes, still SAAB) 16 years later...how many cars still look like they were freshly designed 15 or more years after the fact? But as great as the car was when it was working, it was VERY EXPENSIVE for not only repairs but routine maintenance (like redoing the front brakes). Part of that is there are few enough of them around where I live that only dealers seem to have any experience or expertise on them, and the dealers charge A LOT! My advice, if you have one, enjoy it for a while, and sell it before anything starts to break on it!

Could be a number of reasons but the first one that comes to mind is that the starter assembly is NG (no good).
