Tachometer Filter Tach Wire Plug Connector ON A 1979 TRANS AM
try a tach
I'm not sure about the speedometer, but if the tach is not working a good bet would be the tach filter. With age, a wire often breaks off on these. Look in one of the service manuals to find location. The speedometer may have a similar sensor, but I'm not certain. Thanks! I will check out the book ASAP. Appreciate your answering.
The tachometer is fed from the distributor coil. High voltage spikes are filtered on the wire to prevent damage to the electronic display. There is a tach filter attached to the intake manifold. Replace this filter and your tach will work again. Mid-America Motorworks Part #618-561
I'm trying to install a factory tach my self. the guage cluster harness has a connector for the tach but I'll have to find the other end. this much I know there is a tach filter that connects to the distributer the other end attaches to the tach. try www.elcaminocentral.com they have a lot of good info on the process & yes it looks like you may need to run a wire from the distributer to the tach.
Driver side rear between firewall and engine block. It is bolted in with one of the engine and trans bolt. You will have to remove the wiper motor to get to it.
negative side of the coil
Tach signal wire is located at the PCM near the connector. Use the manual should there be need for help in locating it.
It doesn't have a cable driven tach. It is electronic.
