There is no such area code as 0144 in the UK.

There are several area codes in use between 01440 and 01449 each in different areas.

* 01440 - Haverhill (HH) * 01441 - unused * 01442 - Hemel Hempstead (HH) * 01443 - Pontypridd, Glamorgan (GG) * 01444 - Haywards Heath (HH) (also covers Burgess Hill) * 01445 - Gairloch (GH) * 01446 - Barry, Glamorgan (GG) * 01447 - unused * 01448 - unused * 01449 - Stowmarket, Gipping (GG)

The local number in all of these areas has six digits.

Telephone country codes never begin with zero, but country code +1 (dialed as 00 1 from many places) is North America. However, you need the following three digits (the area code) to narrow down the location. See the related link for North American area codes beginning with 4.

(The plus sign means "insert your international access prefix here." From a GSM mobile phone, you can enter the number in full international format, starting with the plus sign. The most common prefix is 00, but Japan uses 010, Australia uses 0011, and many other countries use different prefixes.)

In the UK, area code 0141 is Glasgow, Scotland, and surrounding areas. In international format, it becomes +44 141.

Other countries may have an area code 01414 or similar.
