change tention arm pully bad barings
1st remove negative battery cable from battery. then remove electrical connectors from alternator with ratchet, rotate tentioner pully to remove belt. (near top/center of belt) remove support bracket and mounting bolts and it's off.
which pully do i remove tension to remove the alternator?
there should be a tensioner pully. Put the 3/8 ratchet in the center of it and turn.
It has only one belt. The drive belt drives the Alternator and A/C Compressor and is driven by the crankshaft pully and the slack is taken out by the tenioner pully. It dont have a timing belt,it has a timing chain.
Need to lift car. From the bottom remove the compressor it has 4 bolts, then you will be able to see the bolt that goes to alternator, also loosen the pully from the top then and bottom the botom.
wrap the belt around the pully to hold pully still
if the car doesn't have an automatic tensioner than if the belt is around the alternator pully you loosen the bolt holding the alternator on and move the alternator to tighten the belt.
Well if its set up like most other engines it will have a tension pully that keeps the pully tight. they arent hooked up to power anything. theyre just bolted on so take it off and the pully will go slack. if the engine has a serpentine belt you may need to remove two. just remember to put them back on.
Check the alignment of your pully and also look for a cracked or broken pully.
a pully underneath the alternator moves with an end wrench. turn the nut clockwise and the belt will loosen up
Remove belt pressure via the tensioning pully. Remove belt from alternator pully. Remove negative battery terminal. Disconnect wiring. Remove bolts. Remove altinator. Replace altinator. Reinstall bolts and connect wiring. Reinstall belt and negative terminal. It should take around 20 minutes.
