In North America, VINs are required to have a 17 Digit Number, this number is easiest viewed from the Windshield tag. This system was implemented in 1979/1980. By "Rear Right Type", I am Assuming Firewall? This would be the Frame code, and this Differs from the VIN. This is basically a serial number. Look closely to your Frame number and VIN Number You will find the last several digits to be the same as the last several digits of the Frame Number. OR Your Vehicle was in a major accident and either required a new frame, or body.... Or it's stolen.
Your VIN is invalid it should be 17 digits. If the last 8 digits are correct it is a 2004 model.
You find it as a 17 digit number stamped into the frame on the left lower frame rail.
If the 8th digit in each car's VIN are the same, then Yes!
you should round it to the nearest tenth and box the first number
10th digit is a "2", therefore your RM250 is a 2002.
I have the same model and the older models like yours only had 7 digits not the normal 13. The vin# is behind the right front tire on the frame next to your shift lever. Its going to be a "7" digit #. Your model # decal should be in the same location.
There should be a number stamped into the frame under the seat. On my 88 its on the passenger side frame rail near the air box and battery. Nine digits all numbers is the SSN, which they use as a VIN. 1989 = 10 digits, coded as below: substract 1 digit. 1992-1999, If 11 digits found under the seat, passengers side, motor mount, 1st 3 are Model, ie.. 300, 400. Then the next 2 digits are the month, ie.. 01-12. Then the 6 digit is the year 7=1997, 8=1998, 9=1999. Last digits are sequential numbers assigned to the drive train. 2000 or NEWER, If 14 numbers found under the seat....., first 4 are 14V...Then the remaining 11 are same as above. The serial number plate is on the front of the frame below the handlebars, behind the headlight. For 16-digit serial numbers, go to the Yamaha web site. For serial numbers less than 16 digits, take the number to a Yamaha dealer and ask for a search from Yamaha Japan.
The 17 digit VIN will be stamped on the neck of the frame near the headlight.
