THERE IS NO DISTRIBUTOR ON A 5.4. IT USES IGNITION COIL PACKS
auto zone will check your codes for FREE. if you have a bad coil pack they will tell you.
It doesn't have a distributor cap , it's coil on plug ignition

On a 2000 Ford Explorer : With the 4.0 liter SOHC , V6 engine ( it is on the drivers side of the engine , you will see where the 6 spark plug wires are connected to the 6 towers on the coil pack ) With the 4.0 liter EFI , V6 engine ( it is on the passenger side of the engine ) The coil pack towers are numbered : coil-----3 - 4 pack----2 - 6 plug-----1 - 5

It is on the left side of the engine. You will see a coil and that is the module also. It is one unit.
I don't think that engine has a coil "pack." I believe it has 8 individual coils. One for each cylinder. They are called "coil over plugs." Each individual coil is located directly over each spark plug. ok Johnson number 8 is very back cylon driver side
The ignition coil is located just to the right of your car's engine. An easy way to locate it is to follow the wires from your spark plugs. The other end of the cable is connected to the ignition coil.
The ignition coil is built inside the distributor on a 2000 Chrysler Sebring 2.5L.
