There are National Guard and Army Reserve units in Syracuse, but the closest active post is Fort Drum, located about 80 miles north of Syracuse, and adjacent to Watertown. It's the home of the 10th Mountain Division (and, incidentally, was my first duty station in the Army).
They are based at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, near Wilminton, North Carolina.

Fort Lewis
In 1969 there was a Fire Base Apollo in IIICTZ manned by the 3rd Bde of the 1st Infantry Division, US Army. There was an out post apollo located on the ashau valley occupied by units from the 101st airbourne division from 1971 to february 1972.
Fort Lewis, located in Washington, is part of Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM). The address is 6500 1st Division Drive, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA 98433. This military installation serves as a base for various U.S. Army and Air Force units.
During 1970-1971, Pleiku in Vietnam was home to several army bases, most notably Camp Holloway, which served as the headquarters of the US Army 4th Infantry Division. Additionally, Camp Enari, known as Dragon Mountain, was located nearby and served as the main base for the 4th Infantry Division. There were also several smaller bases and fire support bases scattered throughout the region surrounding Pleiku.
The Airborne School is located at Fort Benning, Georgia, which is just outside of Columbus, and Airborne units are stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina (near Fayetteville), in Vincenza, Italy, and at Fort Richarson, Alaska. It is also possible to be a paratrooper in any combat division of the US Army, all of which have a jump qualified LRS-D (Long Range Surveillance Detachment) unit amongst them.
