To get back the missing back button (don't know why they removed it!) go to View : Toolbars : Customize then drag the "Back Forward" buttons next to the refresh button.
There was NO reason for them to remove these buttons and NO reason for making it such a mystery how to fix it. Netscape messed up on this one.

I recommend that you stick with firefox2 until it firefox3 is ready, unless you just can't wait.
