It is mounted on the "back" of the front gear housing cover between the engine block and lower part of the injector pump, just above the Power Steering case. You might be able to touch it with your fingers if they are long enough. You should be able to see it with a flashlight and mirror. This little pumpkin along with the crankshaft position sensor provides the timing for the injector pump which by its name you might guess is a major participant in the actual operation of a diesel engine. I believe this information to be correct for all 5.9L 24 valve turbos between 1999-2003. I hope this has been of some value to you. I can't tell you how wonderful, splendid, perfect and special working on these engines can be. Oh, just in case; you have to pull the starter to get to the crankshaft position sensor; Oh, and you'll need a twelve point 10mm socket to pull the starter bolts because they are also splendid and perfect.
