THE ECU ON A 93 HATCH IS UNDER THE CARPET BY THE PASSENGER DOOR WHERE YOUR RIGHT FOOT RESTS WHILE SITTINGIF YOU PULL UP THE CARPET ITS BOLTED TO THE SIDE OF THE CAR IF THE ECU IS FOR YOUR CAR JUST AN UPGRADE THAN IT SHOULD PLUG IN TO THE WIRTING HARNESS JUST FINE
The short answer is "Yes". However, the swap in question is not an easy one for many backyard mechanics. In order to make the swap happen you will need aftermarket motor mounts, modified axles, a modified wiring harness, a pedal swap, a new center console (to make the shifter look right,) and an upgrade from OBD0 to OBD1.Depending on the trim level of your 1991 Civic, you can swap motors from the same generation Civic (1988-1991) for not only a power increase, but a cheaper and easier swap. So if you have an LX, you could source a D16A6 engine from a Civic SI for a considerable power improvement, and all you will need is the motor and preferably the Engine Control Unit (ECU).The automatic-to-manual swap will require a set of pedals from a 1988-1991 Civic, a manual transmission for the motor you have or want to use with shift linkage, all clutch components with lines and cylinder(s), and an ECU designed for both your motor and transmission.
Swap out your stock ecu chip with a high performance one it can increase hp and mpg.
Every Skyline from R32 R33 R34, has the ECU behind the passenger Kick Panel on left side. remove the panel with a few phillips head screws, then the ECU needs to be removed with a 10mm wrench or socket in three spots. then swap, and enjoy your new ECU
Yes
The Check Engine Light comes on when the ECU has detected a problem with the emissions system. Have the ECU scanned with an OBD2 scanner to retrieve the code that has been set. That code will tell you where to start looking for the problem.
no, you can retain the old one. the fuel maps and timing tables are close enough between the z6 which was in the si, and the y8 that is in the ex. then you don't have to worry about getting the civic's obd2 ecu and then purchasing an obd1-obd2a jumper harness.

all cars 1995 and older have an ODB1 or ODB0, All cars 1996 and newer have ODB2. Unless the car has had a motor swap it should have an OBD1 ecu.
early xr2i's with external EDIS can swap ecus with no problem later spec xr2i's have internal EDIS and external pats, you cant swap an early ecu with a later ecu, you cant swap a pats ecu with a non pats ecu (pats is the Ford Passive Anti Theft System)
turbocharger or motor swap is the most effective way, but expensive. otherwise you can just do the basics with a cold air intake, headers, full exhaust. this is cheapest. but you can also put on a bigger throttle body, aftermarket intake manifold, get the cylinder head ported, install a lighter cam, get your ecu chipped and tuned, or just build the whole motor.
No.. it cannot.
If a Honda Civic is over revving than there may be a problem with the ECU. One of the functions of the ECU is to prevent the engine from over revving.
