Coolant temperature sender in 1994 Ford Taurus?

If your Ford Taurus is the regular GL model, and not the SHO, then there are 2 different sensors that have to do with coolant/temperature. I have a 1994 Taurus GL 3.0 engine and I am currently working on my engine. The "temperature switch" which controls the gauge in your car is the sensor located to the right and slightly below the thermostat housing on one of the 2 hoses that go into the engine or housing. Mine was an 18mm bolt that had a single plug on the lead. It is smaller than the coolant temperature sensor and looks completely different. It had a round cylinder that bolts into the hose with a flat surface at the end. The "Coolant Temperature Sensor", which sends temperature readings to the engine computer and activates the cooling fan is sometimes found in either that spot or that area. Mine however is found above my thermostat housing on the engine block next to the valve cover. It had a plug port with 2 leads inside a white or grey plastic top. When you take this sensor off, it will have that plastic top with a brass bottom that comes to a point after the threads.

Why would Taurus water temp varies with engine speed?

The temperature of the water will vary on any vehicle with speed, including on the Taurus. The more an engine runs, the higher the water temperature will be in the radiator. If the radiator is overheating, then there could be a malfunction with a temperature sensor, a leaky hose, or damage to the radiator.

How do you troubleshoot 1992 Taurus 3.0 temperature gauge?

I have an 1995 Taurus with 3.0 L engine with an erratic temp gage. I found a cure by cleaning the connection where the wire plugs into the sensor on the engine & putting dielectric grease on it.
