NASA's (National Aeronautics and Space Administration's) Space Shuttle Program (SSP) has been retired following the end of the last space shuttle mission, STS-135 (Space Transportation System 135), which landed in the pre-dawn darkness hours of Thursday, July 21, 2011 (coincidentally, the day after the 42nd anniversary of the first Moon landing) at the Shuttle Landing Facility (SLF) (runway) at the John Fitzgerald Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. All ten NASA centers played some kind of a role and provided support for every space shuttle mission and for the operations of the Space Shuttle Program as a whole, however the Space Shuttle Program office was located at the Lyndon Baines Johnson Space Center (JSC) at Houston, TX.
The shuttle program has been completed. There will be no more shuttle launches.
The space shuttle is NASA's space transportation system, designed to carry astronauts and cargo to and from Earth orbit. The first space shuttle flight took place in 1981. The space shuttle fleet is scheduled to be retired in 2011. When the shuttle program ends, the space shuttle will have been launched on more than 130 missions. :):):):):)
NASA is shutting down the space program because the ISS (international space station) will no further need any assistance. NASA also has completed it missions with the space shuttle program just like it is done with Apollo. But this does 100% mean that NASA is not shutting down. Their are many other missions that future astronaut's will discover. Such as the Constellation Program, and mission to Mars.
Discovery was the last shuttle that launched. With her landing on March 9, 2011, the shuttle program ended.
Because of budgets, the aging orbiters, and unfortunately.. Politics.

The Space Shuttle Program was Commissioned by NASA and built by the joint effoerts of United Space Alliance, Thiokol/ Alliant Techsystems, Lockheed Martin, and Boeing Rockwell. The Space Shuttle program has nothing to do with religion and spirituality.

Atlantis, Endeavor, Discovery are the only Space Shuttles currently operating in NASA's Space Shuttle program (Challenger and Columbia were both lost in explosions).
