Actually, I have a 2001, 5.3l engine...replaced the PCV valve today. It is located toward the rear of the engine compartment...on the right...atop the valve covers. It is obscured by its rather large hose. I am pretty sure the Gen III 5.3L engine line has an internal PCV. There is no replacing required.

The pcv valve should be located on the top of the valve cover. It is located closer to the rear of the motor.

The purge valve solenoid on your 2001 Chevy Cavalier is located on the side of the engine. It is mounted on the block right below the intake manifold and can be distinguished because of the bracket attached to it.
