It is the black fitting with a hose coming out of the valve cover on top of the engine. Just pull it right out. If you have a fuel injected model it uses a dual orifice valve that is located at the back of the engine. It has three vacuum connectors and connects to the back of the fuel injector unit, the air cleaner, and another vacuum line.

I have a 1998 Ford Escort ZX2 and the PCV valve was located to the right of the exhaust heat shield in front of the engine block. All I had to do was pull the rubber elbow out that was connected to the PCV valve and then pull the valve out. It was arguably the easiest maintenance work I've done on a car. I didn't have to take apart the heat shield or any other component.

PCV valve should be on bottom right side of motor. to the right of the last spark plug. Pull it out with car off. It comes out with a hose on it. Insert new PCV valve into hose. Insert PCV into open hole.
