Left side of valve cover if you facing the truck.
The EGR valve, on a 2004 Ford F150 5.4 liter engine, is located on the top of the engine near the back. The valve is difficult to identify without prior mechanical knowledge.
on top of the right (passanger) side valve cover.

I was looking on fordparts.com at the 2004 Ford Ranger with the 3.0 liter V6 engine and it doesn't list an EGR valve for the 3.0 liter like it does for the 4.0 or 2.3 liter

According to autozone . com ( no spaces ) The 2004 Ford F-150 : 2 wheel drive - 53 % are 4.6 liter and 44 % are 5.4 liter 4x4 - 79 % are 5.4 liter and 20 % are 4.6 liter
The 5.4 L with the 3 valve cylinder heads has 300 horse power
