The AC compressor in the 1999 Ford Expedition/F150 is located on the passenger side of you engine, next to the fire wall. It can be tricky to get to when using r134 to recharge the system. Facing the engine, on the left side, behind the battery you will find a removable cover with several electrical wires behind it. To access the Lower in order to charge air conditioning refrigerant it is not necessary to remove this. Directly below this you will find 2 larger hoses, in 4.6 and 5.4, directly behind these hoses you will find the A/C compressor, the valve used to refill refrigerant is behind these hoses, making it tricky. Additionally, after removing the cap you find that the insert is set at a slight angle. The most efficient way to access this is by using "AC Pro" R134A refill. Found at AutoZone and most auto parts store, even Walmart, though more expensive, is the best investment, not only for quality, but the hose is the ONLY over the counter refill with a tube long enough to access the insert while still using the canister, but can also be reused with future refills. I will also note that in Expeditions with rear air it is necessary to by the smaller can of refrigerant in addition to the one with hose as after running the AC for a few hours will cause it to move back and fill the rear air system and the capacity is approximately 30 ounces total when running warm or under 15 psi. It can run you about 75 dollars all together, but considering the benefits and additives in this formula, well worth the investment.
