At the top front of the radiator housing on the left side and secured by 2 screws. Undo the screws and pull up the black housing. The air filter is inside the housing.

The cabin air filter of a 2004 Volvo s40 is located behind the glove compartment. To install a new filter simply remove the glove box and the filter can easily be replaced.
The 2006 Volvo1.6 liter engine IAT sensor can be found between the air filter box and the top of the engine. The IAT sensor will be attached to the air intake hose.
I have not done it yet, but I have been told by more than one Volvo Dealership that it requires removing the gas pedal to get to the cabin air filter (it's apparently on the driver's side). Good luck!

The oil filter is located underneath the engine, passenger side. You will see it in a black plastic housing. The Volvo S40 doesn't use a traditional metal style oil filter. You can order the filter from your Volvo dealer or K&N makes one as well, model # HP-7002. You will need a special wrench to remove the filter, you can order this from your Volvo dealer or from Amazon.com (search for Volvo S40 filter wrench), made by AST/Assenmacher, cost is roughly $14.00.
