I just had to replace the blower motor resistor on my wifes 1998 ranger xlt, her's is a 2.5 liter four cylinder. If yours has the same engine then it should be in the same location. Open your hood and look over at the passengers side of the firewall, you'll see your blower motor sticking out of the air box. Look straight under the air box off to the right side just a little bit, there should be a small rubber hose (about 3/4" and 5" long) running from the firewall to the blower motor. Pull the hose off of the firewall and you'll be able to see the back side of the resistor sticking out with the electrical plug going into it. I think the two screws that hold it in place are 5/16. Dont even bother trying to take the plug off until you take the screws out, and even then it's probably going to be a nightmare. I soaked mine with penatrating oil and still ended up cutting the plug off and using blade connectors to hook it back up. corosion and rust is probably the reason it failed to start with, it's just a horrible design. Goodluck
