Open the luggage compartment lid and look on the sidewall right above where the brake pedal would be. It's a little plastic tank with a lid and two hoses coming out the bottom of it.
Well, the engine in a 1974 vw Beetle is in the back of the car. So the brake fluid in front or the back to the left of the right.
It is located under the front hood on the driver's side. It is up close to the dash on the driver's side. There will be a little holder for it with a strap holding it down.
DOT 3, DOT 4 or DOT 5.1 (but NOT DOT 5, which is silicone brake fluid) can be used in your car.
That is a pressure controlled brake light switch, when you step on the brake pedal and develop pressure in the brake fluid the brake lights are switched on.

Older cars that have been used regularly have a lot of corrosion, the brake petcocks are probably rusted. Although there is a considerable amount of aluminum in the RR, the petcocks are not, be careful and have some replacement petcocks or you may find yourself draining the entire brake fluid. Apply a penetrating oil product the day before you start the project. Additionally, have an ample supply of new, sealed bottle of brake fluid available for the job. Note: Brake fluid reacts with the moisture in the air, so use a fresh supply.
Lift hood, find power steering pump, remove pump reservoir cap, add correct PS oil, check level on dipstic or fill line on pump.
The car will stop when you pull the brake handle, but it won't stay up? Easy fix: there is a metal thing in there down by the handle's pivot point that looks like part of a gear, and a plastic thing that meshes with it to hold the handle where you want it. (Lovely technical terms, eh?) The plastic thing, and sometimes the part-gear, has worn out. Things happen in 38 years. The fix is to buy an E-brake handle rebuild kit and install it in the brake handle.
