To replace the brake light switch on a 1999 Mercury Tracer, first disconnect the negative battery cable to ensure safety. Then, locate the brake light switch, which is typically mounted above the brake pedal. Remove the wiring harness from the switch, unbolt it from its bracket, and install the new switch in reverse order, making sure it's properly aligned. Finally, reconnect the battery and test the brake lights to ensure they function correctly.
