The brake light switch is located on an aluminum air line junction block. The air line block is directly forward of the steering column on the cab side by the firewall. There is an access panel on the engine side of the firewall that gives you access for replacement.
It's by the break switch to the left of the break pedal.
There is no adjustment on 1984 thru 1989 carrera. There are 2 brake light switches which are wired in parallel and are located on the brake master cylinder.
on your brake pedal lever,its a switch,easy to remove ,just unscrew bolt and disconnect wire.
More than likely the brake light switch is defective or out of adjustment.

The fuel tank selector switch can be found on the left side of the dash of a 1984 F-150. This is immediately next to the headlight switch.

The easiest way to remove an old brake light switch(also called stop light switch) is to break it off. Simply wedge a screwdriver between the switch and the metal bracket and twist. It will pop right out. The switch has 4 ledges that lock the stop-light switch into place. It's very difficult to remove without breaking it.
Go to your brake pedal,theres a switch attached to it,it may be stuck or it needs to be replaced. There is a rubber dampener plug that sometimes falls out of the pedal arm that leaves a hole where the pedal would normally depress the brake light switch that is attached to the lower dash.
