The "car" is an early "horseless carriage" at Thomas Edison's house (1877 AD, 9 o'clock on the time device). It is at the far left, and you can start it by pressing the button in the back. It will drive across the scene and stop under the tree, allowing you to jump onto the trees and then the roof.
