If you are referring to the PCM ( powertrain control module ) one end of the PCM should be visible from the engine compartment. You will see a wiring harness bolted to the PCM in the firewall on the passenger side

The Ford Explorer computer module is located on the firewall under the hood in the center on some models. On other models the computer module is behind the glove compartment. The glove compartment has to be removed (open it as far as possible to pop it off the back hinge) to access the computer module.

On a 1998 Ford Explorer : You can seeone end of the Powertrain Control Module ( PCM ) in the engine compartment . It passes through the firewall , from the engine compartment end you can see where the wiring harness is bolted to it , and most of the PCM is " hidden " behind the glove compartment
