The coolant gauge temp sensor is a one wire sensor located on the right rear of the engine block.
Usually the front of the cyl. head.
3.1L dont have a crank sensor
one is located at the thermostat housing. the other is in the bottom of the radiator.
on the right side of the block just above the trany The sensor is located just above the manfol.
By the thermostat
The coolant temp sensor is threaded into the thermostat housing, and has one small female plug (black i think). It is just to the left of the air box. Very easy fix.
The sensor for the engine coolant on a 1991 Ford Probe LX is inside of the coolant tank. There is a lever, and when the fluid gets below this lever, it signals to be checked. It should be refilled.
ON my 92 sundance the sensor is located on the side of the themostat housing. It also controls the cooling fan. If it quits, start the car let it warm up and unplug the sensor at the housing. If the fan comes on the sensor is bad.

problem with the coolant sensor check the connection on the sensor reset your OBD I code if that don't work replace the coolant sensor
