Should be on the right hand side of the engine if you are facing it, right below the EGR. There will be a 2 wire harness that you need to carefully pry off with a screwdriver or other tool. Be sure not to change it when the engine is hot (you could burn yourself and strip out the hole for the sensor). It is easier if you remove the air intake hose.
The 2001 Lexus coolant temperature sensor can be found on the front of the engine. The coolant temperature sensor will be in the vicinity of the thermostat housing.
