Which engine do you have?
The coolant temperature sensor on a 1997 Lincoln Continental is located on top of the engine, near the upper radiator hose. It constantly relays the engine's temperature to the computer.
The coolant temp sensor is located next to the thermostat housing.
it is threaded into the thermostate housing.
The 1997 Ford Explorer ambient temperature sensor can be found on the bottom of the drivers side mirror. The engine coolant temperature sensor can be found on the front of the engine.
It is located in the bottom of coolant bottle.

The coolant temperature sensor on a 1997 Tacoma is located on the front of the engine. To find it follow the upper radiator hose to where it enters the engine. The sensor will be place near it.
unplug the clip from the sensor. if your replacing it, you just unscrew the sensor
the engine coolant temperature senson is located just below the throttle body on the front of the engine
it should be by your thermostat housing
It is in the intake manifold close to the thermostat housing.
They don't have fuses. The speedometer is controlled by the speed sensor(s) and the temperature gauge is controlled by the coolant temperature sensor.
