Right behind the crank pulley if theres a timing belt cover you'll have to remove it to access it.
12 valve it is on the front of the engine, above the crankshaft pulley. 24 valve it is behind the starter, in the side of the block.
It will be on the firewall side of the engine. It is near the transmission. There are two sensors mounted there......a knock sensor and the crank sensor. It's been a while and I am not sure which one is which.....but it's there. no wrong totally, its not on the transmission side it is on the belt side , in back down by the crankshaft..
The 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander has 24 valves.

Did u try to change the fuel filter or leave the gas cover off and see if that helps. On my 1990 Z-24, it was the crankshaft sensor.

The ratio is computed by counting the gear teeth on the camshaft and the teeth on the crankshaft. Therefore a cam with 24 teeth against a crankshaft with 48 teeth, there is a 2:1 ratio.
