On a 1994 Ford Ranger ( which is OBD I , EEC IV )
should have an EEC TEST connection in the engine compartment

Should be a port inside under dash where you plug in a code reader.
I believe that will be found under the hood, near the windshield, drivers side.

Just to the rear of the battery is a plastic cover that is held in place with one fastener. Under the cover is a 5-sided red connector. That is the diagnostic port for the Ford EEEC-IV system. You will need a reader, or a jumper wire and an analog vom to extract the codes. tom walsh
