The discussion page appears as a tab - when you try to answer the question, or edit an existing answer.

Click on the "improve", or "improve answer" ORANGE Button and then choose the "DISCUSSION" tab on the right side. There you can discuss anything you want without changing someone else's answer :-)
If you go to the discussion page - there should be a delete button by each post.
The Discussion page of questions is to be used for notes about the question and/or the answer. Supervisors sometimes use the page to add notes to the answer that should not be added to the answer itself, however the discussion pages are used very seldom.
