Hi, I just got my 2002 VW W8 serviced and apparently it takes 10Ls....he must have used gold oil - because it cost me a small fortune! Still looking for th correct answer to see if I got ripped off - will check manual later.
I'm not sure where the reservoir is located on a W8 but the cap is green. Only use VW fluid, it is special mineral oil and if you don't it will ruin the pump.
if it is the 1.8T yes... if its the V6 I do believe only 89 octane... and if its the W8 yes...
Some radiator fans will come on with the air conditioning. If it comes on with a cold engine with the air conditioner off then there may be an issue with the fan temperature switch. It is normal for a fan to come off and on during driving after warm-up.
w8 means =wait
There is no transmission dipstick on automatic or manual transmission Passats. The automatic (tiptronic) transmissions have a "lifetime" fluid that can generally only be changed by the dealer.
Leave the drivers door open, put the key in, turn to on position (not running) and hold down the reset button (Trip) for five seconds.
For this vehicle there is a manufacturer specified oil - this manufacture DOES require a full synthetic oil to be used to due to the tight engine tolerances and the engine oil sludging concerns. The oil for this vehicle is a VW specific code of 502.00 for 1.8T, W8 and V6 engine. This oil comes in a 5w30, 5w40, 0w30 and 0w40.

SONY ER. W8...is better for looks, music, and evene application point of view.
sony ericsson w8
The manufacturer recommends a synthetic 5W30 or 5W40 engine oil which meets the particular VW specs. You'll need 4 quarts if it's a 1.8L 4-cylinder, or 6 quarts if it's the 2.8L V6 (or 9.5 quarts for the 4.0L W8!)
