If it is the same as my friends 1996 Dakota, which pretty sure it is...
THEN the gas filter is located in with the fuel pump under the truck.
We found out you could not simply buy the fuel filter, instead you are
supposed to go to the Manufacturer and order the whole fuel pump unit...
That is messed up! It is over $500 then to replace a plugged fuel filter...
Again, that is messed up! We did not end up having to do that with my friends truck, it turned out to be another issue.
There has to be another way of changing the filter, it appears you can order them or something similar on-line, but you can NOT order them from your local auto parts store.
Good Luck!
In the fuel tank with the pump
On Dodge Dakota it is integral to the fuel pump module and located inside the fuel tank. The filter itself is not serviceable or replaceable. To replace the filter, you must replace the entire fuel pump.
The fuel filter on 1998 Dodge trucks, Dakota, and full size trucks and vans have the fuel filter located inside the fuel tank, It is a non replacable filter.
My 1995 Dakota Sport has a fuel filter bolted to the frame on the driver's side about mid way down the truck. Purchased a WIX filter for my truck 2 days ago for about $19 with tax. Unfortunately, in most cases, the fuel filter is located inside of the fuel pump. Unless you're willing to take on a big project you'll want to take it to a shop.
no, the filter is in the gas tank
The fuel filter on a 1999 Dodge Dakota is part of the pump module in the fuel tank.

I own a 2002 Dakota and the fuel pump and fuel filter is located in the gas tank I would assume the same for a 2000 Dakota
