Where is the fuel filter located on a 2000 Mitsubishi Galant?

I have a 2000 Mitsubishi Galant and reading from the Haynes repair manual all Galants from 1999 and later have a fuel filter which is integrated with the fuel pump. The integrated fuel filter/fuel pump is located in the gas tank and can be accessed through a panel which is found under the back seat.

I am not sure your answer is correct, at least, for the 2000 V6. It is my understanding that the filter is in the gas tank.Answer

The majority of these cars have the fuel filter located in the engine compartment mounted to the firewall. Make sure you relieve the pressure on the system before disconnecting the fuel lines or you will have fuel spraying all over the engine. To do this you need to unscrew the fuel filler cap. Next remove the lower seat cushion in the rear seat, this will give you access to a plate that has a wiring harness coming up through it, remove this service cover and disconnect the fuel pump harness connector. Finally you need to start the vehicle and let it run until it stalls from lack of fuel. (the engine uses the fuel in the lines it will not draw any more from the tank, so dont worry if you have a full tank it will not empty it until you hook up the connector for the fuel pump again :). hope this helps get you going on the right track.
