The fuel filter on a Yj is on the driver's side, just in front of the forward attachment for the rear shock absorber. It's behind a metal shield. You will need a 3/8 inch socket to remove the shield's 4 bolt to reach the filter.
Clogged fuel filter.

You'd have extra clean fuel. It won't hurt anything.

If it is a 4.2, the fuel filter is in-line and located between the fuel pump and the carburetor. Mine is right in front of the carb. If it is the 2.5 fuel injected motor, the filter is located on the left frame rail behind a shield just in front of the shock absorber.

The correct name of the Jeep YJ, is the Jeep Wranger YJ. One can purchase a Jeep Wrangler YJ at Jeep car dealers, as well as regular car dealers worldwide.
where is the fuel filter on a 2006 jeep cherokee
If you can hear the fuel pump while the Jeep is running, then the fuel pump is going bad or the fuel filter is partially clogged. Replace the fuel filter now. It could last for a while in that condition or die tomorrow. Mine ran that way for about a week before going out completely. Don't make my mistake -- go ahead and replace it immediately!
