There can be an electric fuel pump located on the frame rail under the driver seat area but there is also a mechanical pump that is located on top of the engine near the turbo. The powerstroke uses an injection pump (sometimes called a fuel pump incorrectly). The injection pump on the 1997 is below the lid you must open in order to change the diesel fuel filter. If it needs to be rebuilt you are looking at approximately one thousand dollars so shop around it may make more sense to purchase a new one rather than rebuild.

They made the 6.9L IDI, 7.3L IDI, 7.3L Powerstroke Diesel, 6.0L Powerstroke Diesel, and 6.4L Powerstroke Diesel. Ford strayed away from International for 2011 because of many problems with the 6.0L and 6.4L. For 2011, Ford is making its own diesel engine, the 6.7L Powerstroke Turbo Diesel V8.

Not eveyone is going to agree about the best engine, but I believe the Ford Powerstroke is the all time best engine around.
The camshaft position sensor, on a Ford 6.0 liter power stroke engine, is located inside of the rear engine cover. The sensor is on the back of the camshaft.
