There has been a factory recall on Subaru Impreza cars built through November 15th, 2011 for brake master cylinders. If one is concerned or unsure if their Subaru Impreza is affected in the recall, they should bring their car to a Subaru Dealer to get it checked out.
looking at the engine from the front, its on the right, really far in the back where the transmission is bolted to the engine. under and left of the brake master cylinder.
Check bulbs - they are double filamented with smaller being used for brake lights Check stop light fuse Check the operation of the stop light switch - usually located at the upper end of the brake pedal
Check your brake light switch located above the brake pedal. Check to make sure that the brake pedal rests against the switch. When the brake pedal is depressed than the lights should turn on, but when you let go of it, it should return up and meet with the switch.
It's located above the break pedal
on top of your tranny. located on the passenger side. should be connected to a cable coming out of your fire-wall close to your brake fluid canister. trace that cable to your tranny and you could open it with a wrench.forgive me I forgot the the size of the wrench.
I have had the same problem with my '93 Impreza. The button on the automatic shifter will not depress to take it out of park. There is an override option in the owner's manual but I think the real problem is the brake light sensor. Ocassionaly, when I can actually get it out of park, you can hear a clicking noise when the brake petal is pressed, this is the shifter-lock releasing. It must be the sensor for the brake petal going bad.
I think that switches with bad grounds can burn up like that.
You are going to have to formulate a real question. Yes, Subaru Outbacks have brake calipers.
Auto trans, dipstick located at left rear of engine compartment, under the brake master cylinder, buried under one or more rubber heater hoses. Manual trans, dipstick is larger, and located on right side (passenger side) of engine compartment, behind engine, about halfway between rear edge of engine and the firewall.
To check the brake fluid level on a 99 Subaru Forester, you need to open the hood and locate the brake fluid reservoir. This is located on the master cylinder. There will either be a dipstick in the reservoir, or a line embossed on the side that says 'full.' If needed, add DOT 3 brake fluid.
