A lumina may have many hall effect sensors, especially if it has FI and ABS an electronically controlled automatic transmission. The sensor most commonly referred to as hall effect sensor without using a more specific sensor name or noted purpose is the distributor pickup which is located inside the distributer below the rotor.

Most Luminas (if not all) that I've dealt with had V6 engined with distributorless ignition systems. These engines use a crank position sensor to time the ignition and may also use a cam position sensor to time the fuel injection. These are both types of hall effect sensors.

On a 3100 SFI engine, the crank position sensor generally does not go bad. It's been so long since I've replaced one that I can't remember where it goes. It might be in the side of the block facing the transaxle extension housing like on the 2.8 and if so, to replace it you MUST have long dextrous fingers. The cam position sensor is easy to see in the top of the engine block if you remove the Power Steering pump or the upper intake.

The 3800 engines use a crank position sensor mounted behind the harmonic balancer/damper/crank pulley. This sensor fails frequently. The mounting bracket may or may not be adjustable depending on specific application. If adjustable, adjustment is critical to prevent damage to sensor and damper and possible shrapnel. The cam sensor is located in the front timing cover and is easy to replace, but if no signal is present that's usually caused by a failed magnet. The magnet is located in the cam drive sprocket and can liquify and fail after several years.

The 3400 X motor (hi-po 60 degree DOHC engine) generally does not experience failure of the cam or crank sensors. It's got it's own problems aplenty, though. If you've got one keep in mind that you don't have to remove a head to change the oil manifold gasket if you've got a good cutting wheel. Plus, I pitty the foo.

Where is cam position sensor located on 1993 Chevy lumina?

Assuming that it is a 3.1 V6, as most of them are, there is no cam sensor. Only a crankshaft sensor. It is located behind the harmonic balancer. To replace it the balancer has to be removed.
