There is an electircal switch that 'senses' when the emergency brake lever is applied and lights a warning light on the dashboard to keep you from driving in this condition. This switch may be faulty or out of adjustment, causing the warning light on the dashboard to turn on.
This either means that your emergency brake (hand brake) is on, the light switch needs to be fixed, OR (most common) you need to add more brake fluid. Always check your brake fluid first!
Check the brake fluid level, as on many vehicles the "emergency brake" (in the UK, Hand-brake) warning light also acts as a warning light for low brake-fluid.
you ask it to stop
The brake light switch is located beneath the dashboard. The switch is on the left-hand side of the drivers side.
It means the hand-brake in engaged. Make sure the hand-brake is fully down, and the warning light should dissappear. If not, it could be a hand-brake re-adjustment is in order, or there is a fault with the warning light itself. Hand brake warning light
The 1994 Toyota Camry emergency brake light switch can be found beneath the drivers side dashboard. The emergency brake light switch will be beneath the far left hand side of the dashboard.
look on top of the brake pedal under the dash and you will see the switch, with one hand push the brake pedal down and with the other hand push the brake switch in as far as it will go in it's holder and then pull the brake pedal back with your hand to set it.
Follow the below steps to replace the Brake Light Switch on Chevy Blazer:1) Open the Chevy Blazer's driverdoor, and move the driver's seat as far back as it will go. Lean under the dashboard with the flashlight, and shine the light on the brake pedal arm to locate the brake pedal switch.2) Unhook the brake pedal wiring pigtail from the Chevy's brake pedal switch by hand. Unbolt the old brake pedal switch from the mounting bracket using the box wrench set.3) Remove the old brake pedal switch by hand. Insert the replacement brake pedal switch into the brake pedal bracket. Bolt the switch in place with the box wrench set.4) Plug the brake wiring pigtail into the replacement brake pedal switch by hand. Readjust the driver's seat, and close the door. Hope this helps.
Try checking the switch in the hand lever itself. Sometimes it can get a piece of trash stuck in it.or it can be worn out. On a 93 escort the parking brake light also doubles as a low brake fluid warning light. It may be the same with a 2001. So you could have a leak somewhere.
Most likely it is brake light switch adjustment. Right hand side, halfway between brake pedal and brake - you will have to look for the connection, it is above the bar... there is a switch, you can just rotate the nut to loosen/tighten the switch as needed, really very easy once you find it, be careful not to rotate the switch, just the nut.
