If you're talking about the controls I can tell you about the 86 model. There are 3 levers: to the left is off and to the right is on. The top lever is the defrost when it is pushed all the way to the right (make sure the AC button is not pushed in or else you'll be getting recirculated cold AC out of the AC vents,) The middle lever is AC, when the AC button is in, or vent when it's out. THE BOTTOM IS LEVER IS HEAT WHEN IT IS PUSHED ALL THE WAY TO THE RIGHT and the other 2 levers are to the left. If you want to know about where the heat is located in the engine portion my suggestion is call BAVARIAN AUTOSPORT 800-535-2002 or go the their website www.BavAuto.com. They are knowledgable and helpful. You can order the BMW 5 series service manual from them. Hope something here helps.
